Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates has an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to help establish a development program at the state office. Applicants should be self-starters with the ability to work independently. Efforts will center on support for statewide legislative, advocacy and political organizing efforts and securing financial support to support programmatic initiatives and the operating budget of the state office. Interested candidates must be looking to work on a contract basis. Residency in the central PA region not mandatory.
Candidates must be interested and willing to develop an intimate knowledge of Planned Parenthood services, challenges and opportunities for growth and legislative and political success in Pennsylvania and on the national stage. The successful applicant will report to the State Public Affairs Director with additional guidance from the fundraising committee of the state board of directors. No direct development staff supervision will be available. Fundraising will center mainly around foundation grants and individual donations.
Responsibilities
Build an annual comprehensive development strategy and mobilize a collaborative affiliate/state office effort to execute it.
Develop effective external communications strategies to generate funding for our programs and operating budget.
Working with the State Director to identify and aggressively pursue suitable new donor prospects from political matching efforts and rekindle the interest of lapsed donors.
Develop proposals and personalized appeals to foundations and individuals.
Working with PP affiliate CEOs and development directors to coordinate strategies for shared prospects.
Represent PPPA at internal and external meetings, conferences and events as requested.
Lead the education of the State Board and staff to ensure agreement, understanding and clarity of the development function and their respective roles in supporting it.
Requirements
A strong, demonstrated commitment to reproductive freedom and family planning services, coupled with a strong interest in government and legislative affairs.
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three to five years experience in a not-for-profit organization.
Proven track record in successful grant writing with significant responsibilities working with an established fundraising program.
Strong diplomatic skills and ability to communicate effectively on a one-to-one and group basis.
Ability to innovate and find creative and diplomatic solutions and approaches to multi-level organizational fundraising.
Highly persuasive, inspirational writing and verbal skills.
Experience working with an association with multi-level organizational fundraising preferred.
Experience working in the reproductive rights and/or political community preferred. Knowledge of 501(c)3, 501(c)4 and PAC legal designations preferred.
