Who we are:

Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, Association and PAC and Votes (PPPA) is one of 21 state public affairs offices of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. PPPA staff coordinate political and issue education efforts with public affairs staff at Pennsylvania’s Planned Parenthood affiliates who serve nearly 90,000 patients a year. Our goal is to ensure legislative, issue, and political advocacy efforts are integrated into a coordinated statewide strategy.

Who you are:

The Executive Director is a dynamic and experienced leader with the skills and confidence to be the face of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, Planned Parenthood Association of Pennsylvania, and Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC and Votes, possessing at least 5 years of experience in a public policy or advocacy environment including electoral, legislative and regulatory work. Working closely with and reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and planning of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates (PPPA), Planned Parenthood Association of Pennsylvania and Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC and Votes and making sure each entity achieves its legislative, grassroots and electoral goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Provide Strategic and Operational Leadership by leading development and implementation of strategic plans for organizations.
  • Work with staff and board to develop and implement bold vision for the organizations., including refining and implementing strategic plan for the organizations.
  • Develop and implement effective organizational structures and financial administration policies and procedures, including oversight of annual budget.
  • Assist in Board development activities including retention, training, and ensuring effective communication between staff and Board members.
  • Manage and Develop Staff:  Maximize the potential of all staff members and set high quality performance standards.
  • Empower staff to deliver assigned responsibilities and manage their functions.
  • Provide feedback and support to affiliate public affairs staff on statewide goals.
  • Coordinate administrative functions and communication between Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates and Affiliates.
  • Work in conjunction with Operations Manager to prepare budgets, track and report revenue and expenses

Policy:

  • Develop Public Policy Goals and Strategies:  Provide leadership for identifying public policy direction and the appropriate mechanisms to use to effect policy change in the areas of health finance and reproductive health.
  • Work with Affiliate and Board leadership, staff and contract staff to determine policy and regulatory initiatives related to health finance issues with a particular emphasis on health care reform implementation, Medicaid restructuring, Health Insurance Exchanges, and Pharmacy.
  • Work with partners to craft a policy agenda and strategies for reacting to policies that would negatively affect access to services and reproductive rights.
  • Determine organizational representation to the General Assembly.
  • Work with staff and coalition partners to develop and implement policy campaigns.
  • Cultivate relationships with and support from bureau directors, administrative officials, lawmakers, and other decision makers in support of Planned Parenthood’s role as an Essential Community Provider. Represent the Organization to Opinion Leaders and the Public.
  • Work with staff and board to develop proactive communications strategy.
  • Serve as public representative of the organization to media and the public as required.
  • Serve as a leader and representative to a variety of coalition partners, including but not limited to choice coalitions, State Voices tables, and multi-issue collaborations.

Elections:

  • Work directly with legislators, regulators, and other decision makers to influence policy outcomes.
  • Determine Organizing and Electoral Goals and Strategies by providing overall leadership for development of a statewide plan for electoral, legislative and other organizing campaigns. Implement campaigns as necessary
  • Work with board and staff to develop and implement electoral campaigns. Oversee earned and paid media and field operation.
  • Develop relationships with potential and current electoral candidates that support reproductive rights and the mission of Planned Parenthood.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations relating to electoral activities.

Fundraising:

  • Provide Fundraising Leadership for development efforts and ensure that these efforts meet budgeted goals in collaboration with each affiliate.
  • Identify collaborative fundraising opportunities with major donors, specifically political donors.
  • Cultivate key relationships to broaden levels of giving and develop the fundraising base, with an emphasis on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts.
  • Work with staff and Board to identify and cultivate foundation or institutional donors.
  • Work with staff and Board to identify and execute membership, direct mail, and online giving for the PPPA (501c4 organization) and affiliated PAC.
  • Provide regular progress reports to Board of Directors.

Southeastern PA Field Organizer

The Southeastern PA Field Organizer position is a full-time non-exempt position funded through December 2019. The position will be based in Philadelphia, PA and include outreach in and supporting work in the surrounding Southeast PA counties (Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery and Chester) as needed.

PPPA staff coordinate political and issue education efforts with public affairs staff at Pennsylvania’s Planned Parenthood affiliates who serve over 100,000 patients a year. Our goal is to ensure legislative, issue, and political advocacy efforts are integrated into a coordinated statewide strategy.

Southeastern PA Field Organizer: As a member of the Statewide Public Policy team, the Southeastern PA Field Organizer is responsible for supporting state and national Planned Parenthood campaigns for reproductive rights through activities related to 501(c)(4) and some 501(c)(3) grassroots outreach and advocacy volunteer management. The Organizer’s goal is to increase public awareness of Planned Parenthood’s legislative, educational, and advocacy efforts and activate volunteers to support that work in Southeastern Pennsylvania. This position will help expand the grassroots Planned Parenthood network to create a long-lasting and sustainable environment for reproductive rights advocacy.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Recruit for, plan, and participate in a range of 501(c)(4) grassroots advocacy activities in Southeastern PA, such as supporter recruitment, patient engagement and campaigns
  • Connect with existing community and campus groups, as well as outreach to University professors, campus and community leaders, and supportive businesses
  • Activate student leaders into Planned Parenthood Advocacy volunteers and volunteer leaders to build broad and visible support for Planned Parenthood’s mission
  • Work with the communications team to support social media in an attempt to reach potential leaders, broadcast a unified message about organizing and advocacy and showcase the work done by youth organizers
  • Develop and implement grassroots outreach strategies that meet the needs and interests of residents in Philadelphia County and surrounding Collar Counties
  • Support national and state based campaigns
  • Provide a visible community presence for Planned Parenthood by actively seeking opportunities for Planned Parenthood to increase its public presence
  • Represent Planned Parenthood at community and campus events
  • Maintain activist database (The VAN) to track supporters, volunteers, and events, and use data to identify strategic ways to engage supporters
  • Ensure a culture that embraces diversity, fair and respectful treatment of all persons, and customer-focused delivery throughout the organization
  • Ensure completion of required annual training
  • Recruit, train and supporter volunteers in all actions

Raiz Organizer (2 positions available)
Location: Reading, PA

The Raiz Organizer position is a full-time non-exempt position funded through December 2019. The position will be based in Reading,PA and include outreach in and supporting work in the surrounding Lehigh Valley and Berks counties as needed.

Raiz Organizer: As a member of the Statewide Public Policy team, the Raiz Organizer is responsible for supporting state and national Planned Parenthood campaigns for reproductive rights through activities related to 501(c)(4) and some 501(c)(3) grassroots outreach and advocacy volunteer management. This position is apart of a national and local effort to work with the Latinx community on fights for reproductive health, sex education, and access to care. The Organizer’s goal is to increase public awareness of Planned Parenthood’s legislative, educational, and advocacy efforts and activate volunteers to support that work in Pennsylvania.

The Raiz Organizer will work in close coordination with Statewide Public Policy and Organizing team to engage and grow a base of Latinx supporters and build power for the reproductive health movement in the Latinx community. The Organizers will work directly with the local Planned Parenthood team to develop and execute campaign plans, utilizing those efforts as a vehicle for deepening Latinx engagement at the local level.

This position will help expand the grassroots Planned Parenthood network and deepen engagement and collaboration within the Latinx community to create a long-lasting and sustainable environment for reproductive rights advocacy.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Recruit for, plan, and participate in a range of 501(c)(4) grassroots advocacy activities in Lehigh Valley and Berks areas, such as supporter recruitment, patient engagement and campaigns
  • Build deep/intentional relationships with the Latinx community, organizations and leaders who can support cross-collaboration efforts with Planned Parenthood.
  • Engage, educate, and mobilize Latinx communities on local initiatives and Planned Parenthood services
  • Develop and implement grassroots outreach strategies that meet the needs and interests of Latinx community members in Lehigh Valley and Berks
  • Member training and coalition building
  • Recruit and manage Latinx volunteers to participate in community events/actions
  • Maintain activist database (The VAN) to track supporters, volunteers, and events, and use data to identify strategic ways to engage supporters
  • Manage logistics, planning, and implementation of efforts for local initiative(s)/policies
  • Work with the communications team to support social media in an attempt to reach potential leaders, broadcast a unified message about organizing and advocacy and showcase the work done by youth organizers
  • Active participation in staff and other meetings

Regional Field Director (3 positions)

The Regional Field Director position is a full-time non-exempt position. We are hiring for 3 positions in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Central/Northeast PA area (actual location negotiable). These positions will include outreach in and supporting work in surrounding counties.

Regional Field Director: As a member of the Statewide Public Policy team, the Regional Field Directors are responsible for supporting state and national Planned Parenthood campaigns for reproductive rights through activities related to 501(c)(4) and some 501(c)(3) grassroots outreach and advocacy volunteer management. The Regional Field Director’s goal is to implement and manage field policy, campaign and advocacy efforts within the region. This position will manage and direct field organizing efforts to advance statewide and federal campaign objectives – contributing to creating a long-lasting and sustainable environment for reproductive rights advocacy.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work with the Statewide Field Director to develop and maintain campaign and organizing initiatives and goals
  • Support the implementation of national and state based campaigns through an intersectional lens
  • Manage the execution of PPPA field activities – including both volunteer and staff operations – within the region
  • Manage organizing staff within the region, including developing goals and leadership development
  • Recruit for, plan, and participate in a range of 501(c)(4) grassroots advocacy activities such as supporter recruitment, patient engagement, and campaigns
  • Develop and implement grassroots outreach strategies that meet the needs and interests of residents the geographic area
  • Participate in and lead regional electoral efforts, as necessary, including the management of temporary staff
  • Develop relationships with community partners and coalitions to build the base of support within the region
  • Serve as regional lead for data and communication practices
  • Assist in the management of maintaining the activist database (The VAN) to track supporters, volunteers, and events, and use data to identify strategic ways to engage supporters
  • Work with the communications team to support social media in an attempt to reach potential leaders, broadcast a unified message about organizing and advocacy, and showcase the work done by youth organizers
  • Provide a visible community presence for Planned Parenthood by actively seeking opportunities for Planned Parenthood to increase its public presence

Qualifications :

  • Minimum 4 years of experience of strategic issue-based advocacy and organizing and electoral work
  • Minimum 2 years of experience of managing organizers and volunteers, including setting goals and facilitating the success in achieving goals
  • Commitment to reproductive health and rights for all Pennsylvanians, and to Planned Parenthood’s mission to protect access to safe and legal abortion, access to essential health care and comprehensive sexual education, equality for PA women and LGBTQIA residents, and equity for people of color, immigrants, those economically disadvantaged, and people living with physical or mental disabilities
  • Experience organizing in communities of color and prior training in anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion organizing a bonus
  • Commitment to inclusivity and embodying intersectionality
  • Experience in a campaign/advocacy environment working with diverse communities
  • Collaborative and teamwork skills to effectively support organizing and public policy team
  • Proven ability to work successfully with internal and external partners
