Statement from Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Votes:

At today’s editorial board meeting with PennLive, Governor Tom Wolf re-affirmed that he would serve as a backstop to abortion restrictions in Pennsylvania. Governor Wolf also said that he would not allow the domestic gag rule to take effect in PA and would oppose any legislation that would prevent health care providers from counseling patients on abortion.

Tom Wolf’s work to protect and defend access to reproductive health care is especially critical at a time when the balance of the Supreme Court just shifted.

Last week, Scott Wagner dodged a question about whether he would sign an abortion ban after saying at a previous debate that he would indeed sign a law that would ban abortion before most women know they’re pregnant. And, he said he would “defund” Planned Parenthood, which would leave nearly 90,000 Pennsylvanians without the health care they need.

Statement from Sari Stevens, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Votes:
The contrast we heard in the recent editorial board meetings with the two candidates for Governor is a drumbeat, which underscores what’s at stake this election. Quite simply, Governor Tom Wolf supports women, their reproductive health, and making sure they have access to safe, legal abortion. Scott Wagner does not. Pennsylvanians’ access to rights and health depends on who sits in the Governor’s office, and it’s clear that person must be Tom Wolf.
